Navigating Church Dichotomy Without Cynicism
The Church of God presents a challenging dichotomy between what it claims to be and what it looks like. This is especially difficult for young people, prone to testing authority and sensitive to hypocrisy. How does one avoid cynicism? Examine yourself for hypocrisy first, and maintain a humble, repentant mind. And keep a keen focus on Christ. All authority is appointed by God, so even when dealing with fallible Church authority, it is God to whom we ultimately submit. Nevertheless, it is our tendency to seek physical totems in which we can rely. Yet any person, place, or thing that we trust before God is an idol. It will fail. Examine your own work and keep your focus on Christ, your King. Don’t let anything obscure your hope.
