Greetings,
As we begin each new day, do we do so with a sense of purpose? And by purpose, I mean godly purpose. What are our goals as we engage another day of life? Here are some thoughts and ideas to consider:
• What can we do to help and serve the needs of others, especially the less fortunate? Giving is an expression of God’s love – His character – as He shares Himself with mankind. Giving results in a positive frame of mind for the giver as well as being of benefit to the recipient.
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).
• We need to be constantly aware of the guidelines provided for us in God’s law. The more we are in harmony with the law, the better the results of the day’s efforts will be.
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:10-11).
• Our ways are not God’s ways, so we need to look for God’s hand in the events of the day. Those events may not be of our planning, but God is able to cause or use any events to help mold and shape us as His sons and daughters.
“Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Your Spirit is good, lead me in the land of uprightness” (Psalm 143:10).
• Our “days” of life are short in comparison to God’s “days” for man’s existence. Make use of every day to build a relationship with God. The day is fast approaching when it will be difficult to do that – so do it now.
“A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going” (John 12:35).
• Enjoy the life God has given us, especially while you are young. Enjoy the things you are able to do, but always keep in mind that real happiness is found in a relationship with God. Breaking God’s law produces penalties which may not be totally evident while we abound with youthful energy. Seek God early in life because a day of reckoning will come.
“It is good for a man to bear the yoke in his youth” (Lamentations 3:27).
These principles were given to us by a man who knew the truth of them through his personal experience. If you wish to review these points and dig a little deeper – study Ecclesiastes chapter eleven. What I have shared here is a condensation of that chapter.
Cliff Veal will shortly be taking a trip to Rwanda and Madagascar to visit the members. He leaves this coming Sunday, 12 March and returns on the 21st. He would appreciate your prayers for a safe and profitable visit with the members.
