Greetings,
During a very difficult period of David’s life before he became king, he evidenced characteristics that have been recorded in God’s Word for our benefit. We know that our Father is ever present in our lives. At least we know it academically. But sometimes it feels like we are alone – especially when we pray seeking God’s guidance and help when we find ourselves in a difficult situation or need to make an important decision and the answers don’t appear to be forthcoming.
There were periods in David’s life when king Saul sought to kill him and David trudged around the wilderness waiting to “know what God will do for me” (1 Samuel 22:3). God’s will was not immediately apparent to David, as it sometimes is not obvious to us. We all have times when we desire to know God’s will in order to make wise decisions, but the best way forward is not always clear.
In Psalm 40 David sets out for us a vital characteristic we need in our relationship with God. David waited patiently for God’s direction and intervention. “I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1). David did not allow the situation or the length of time of the trial to separate him from God. The Hebrew root word for “wait patiently” is qavah and it indicates a binding together – to wait or to look for with eager expectation. David maintained a confidence that God would bring him up out of difficult circumstances (a horrible pit or miry clay) and would set him on a rock and establish his steps (v2). David knew that God would reveal His will in His perfect timing and confidently waited for that to happen.
This confidence is also expressed in Psalm 37. “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:3-5). As time passes, when God determines that the time is right, He will establish and show us His will. Meanwhile we have the opportunity to use our Spirit filled minds to seek more understanding and to grow in patience by confidently knowing that God will set our feet on a rock and will establish our steps. Our Father is never far from us and His will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Sabbath services will originate from Concord CA this Sabbath.
Warm Regards,
