Maintaining Identity Without Institutions
Integrated, homogeneous organizations with strong structure and efficacy have been the exception, not the rule, in the history of God’s people. Yet in the 20th century, we built a sophisticated and systematized religion. That unusual experience with a large, feature-rich, and influential church organization may have misaligned our attachment to Christ and skewed our expectations for the future. As the organizational framework of “church” continues to slide into entropy, is our faith and sense of identity at risk? We need to ask what truly makes us God’s people. It is not membership in an organization, but being broken free from Satan’s matrix of bondage. We belong to God because He has made us free. Let go of tribal crutches, celebrate God’s victory, cling to Christ, and care for the community of His people. With or without church infrastructure, all those who remain free of Satan are The Church. And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
