Greetings,
This week Gillian and I have been in El Paso, Texas for Jeanette Emery’s memorial service. The gathering of family and friends was held the day before Thanksgiving and provided a little different window through which to view this national holiday. Also traveling at one of the year’s busiest seasons is – what shall I say – eye opening? The national day dedicated originally to thanking God for His bountiful blessings has significantly moved away from any real association with God. And by all indications, God is not involving Himself in the present national mindset.
Let’s be sure that we do not get caught up in a mind-set that removes the focus away from God and onto self. We have much to be thankful for and most of it is not measured in terms that this world recognizes. Be thankful for a life with God’s Spirit, a life reconciled to the Father and with the potential to become like Christ and in a family relationship with God for eternity. Be thankful that in death we have the very real hope of the resurrection.
Over this Thanksgiving period, be especially mindful of those who need our prayerful support. Members are not immune from the decay of this world as we are “in” it if not “of” it. Many are suffering and looking to God for His merciful deliverance. Be thankful that we have a merciful Father and be praying for each other.
Cliff and Connie Veal are in Madagascar this Sabbath after spending a few days visiting the members in Rwanda. We will look forward to hearing their report of the members in those areas. Next Sabbath Gillian and I will be in Boise, Idaho visiting with the small group there. None were able to go to the Feast mostly because of health related issues and a little encouragement is in order.
Warm regards,
Brian Orchard
