When the Student is Ready
When I was asked by a friend to think outside the box, he told me: “When the student is ready the teacher will appear”.
Out of curiosity I wondered where this saying came from. After searching through many articles and various web sites, trying to ascertain its origin, I found the saying is attributed to several eastern religions. But no one is really sure. But it does conjure up in the mind whether the meaning is in reference to learning through a progression of teachers or recognizing that what I thought I knew was wrong, which leads to learning to be humble enough to listen and be taught.
This message looks at the latter concept. Beginning with a personal lesson learned from a dear friend, followed by recognizing that Jesus Christ was, among other things, a teacher and that the disciples were students who were ready when Christ began His ministry. So what about us today? For the third example we know that Christ said the Father would send His Holy Spirit and that it would teach us.
Using the written Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Spirit can lead us and guide us in spiritual understanding. But for it to lead us, to guide us and to teach us, we must be patient and humble. Because “when the student is ready the teacher will appear.”
