Systems, Powers, and Living Apart
The scale, speed, and abstraction of modern systems have surpassed human comprehension and agency, producing a dehumanizing environment in which people increasingly serve what they have created. Scripture shows this is not merely human dysfunction but a world administered by spiritual powers, with Satan exercising authority over this present age through structured principalities that extend into nations, economies, and institutions. Participation in these systems is therefore not neutral. God commands separation from “the world”—this organized system of pride and rebellion—while maintaining love for His creation and people. The solution is not better opposing systems (i.e. the “they oughta” response), but personal action in local application: keeping God’s appointed times and making disciplined daily life choices. Through these small acts, God’s people resist the system and bear witness to His rule before both physical and spiritual powers.
