Believe and be at Peace
In a time of uncertainty, we need to be able to hold on to things that are certain. To this end God says,
“Known to God from eternity are all His works” (Acts 15:18).
This is an incredibly expansive certainty. It means that everything that has happened, everything that is happening and all that will occur in the future are all known to God. Nothing happens without God being fully aware of it. There are no surprise events with God.
More importantly, it also means that man does not determine the future – only God does. No man can determine any aspect of the future – only God does that.
“In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11).
“All things” would include things that have not yet happened. He governs and determines all things. That also applies to our personal lives.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and even though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea …” (Psalm 46:1-2).
King David must have faced some very difficult circumstances, as is evidenced by some of his psalms. But he expressed confidence because he looked to the certainty of God’s hand in the events of his life.
God intends that His people trust Him because He is the ultimate source and ruler over all things. We trust Him for our salvation, and we look to Him for our deliverance. We fear God, not those who rule over us.
“… and make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 3:9).
Things that may be a mystery to us, but they are known to Him. As the plan of salvation plays out, we need the faith and confidence that all is well-known to God, and that He is in charge.
“Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22).
He requires us to believe that He alone is God, and there is no other. We draw great faith from that knowledge. We can face the uncertainties of this time with great certainty.
Believe and be at peace.
