Listen Up!
The entire universe is no more than the work of God’s hands.
Everything we can see is not God, but merely the work of God. Hence the repeated prohibitions against making an image or icon representing God.
The idea that God is a being that you can see and look upon is idolatry.
How then can God be encountered? God is close, not found in things seen, but in words that are heard.
The pagan beholds his god; we must hear our God.
By listening we are to understand the will of God and be obedient to His word. God does not demand blind obedience; He expects us to hear His commands, think upon them, decide to follow and then be faithful to His command.
