Bread of Affliction – Bread of Life
Bread is called the staff of life. In the Old Testament unleavened bread was eaten during the Days of Unleavened Bread. It symbolized the affliction ancient Israel suffered in Egypt. In the New Testament, unleavened bread symbolizes the bread of life that came down from heaven. We continue to eat unleavened bread during the Days of Unleavened Bread with the emphasis on Christ’s sacrifice and release from the bondage of sin.
