Atonement and the Role of Humility
Recent comments made at both the United Nations and the Clinton Global Initiative talk of a world “gridlocked in colossal global dysfunction”, “in peril – and paralyzed”, and a “world-on-fire”. The cause of this is that Satan has permeated his way into all societies globally. These world leaders are looking for somebody to show up and make something good happen. The Feast of Trumpets tells us that Christ will show up and is exactly the One the world is seeking. The Day of Atonement builds upon God’s plan and informs us that God will restrain Satan and his cohorts. The Day of Atonement is about being at one with God. It is about a oneness and a unity. Atonement has to do with humility and submission. This oneness comes as a result of man submitting his will to God and internalizing God’s law of love and outgoing concern. As we yield our will to God, it brings both unity and oneness with our Father, but also with one another. The evil we witness in the world is the result of Satan’s mind of rebellion. As the world is in gridlock, this is the opportunity for spiritual growth among God’s people as we humble ourselves before our God and shine forth the unity, peace and righteousness God wants for all mankind.
