Greetings,
“Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth; Oh, sing praises to the Lord, Selah. To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old! Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice. Ascribe strength to God; His excellence is over Israel. And His strength is in the clouds. O God, You are more awesome than Your Holy places. The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God!” (Psalm 68:32-35).
These verses from Psalm 68 point us toward aspects of God’s plan that we focus on at this time. God is a God of salvation (verse 20). His nurturing care is over all that has been created from the beginning. His mighty voice will be heard by everyone. His strength will subdue all resistance to His way. His power embraces all created things. God’s mighty plan of salvation is revealed through His people, Israel. “…to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us [spiritual Israel] accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:6). God’s strength will be demonstrated universally and all nations, all kingdoms of the earth, will stretch out their hands in acknowledgment of the God of Israel (verse 31). Through Israel the great and mighty God will be known. All will behold His awesomeness which emanates from His holy place. All people will know and focus on the one true God. He is the source of strength and power to all people.
The relationship that the Church has now with the God of salvation will become the relationship that all kingdoms of the earth will have. The Church is offered eternal sonship in God’s family at the return of Christ and the resurrection to life. Christ’s return initiates the fulfillment of God’s plan of salvation for Israel and all other people.
This is the theme of Psalm 68 and is a good theme for us to meditate on during Pentecost.
