God’s Mandate
“The godly man has disappeared from the earth, and there is no more a righteous man among men. All lie in wait for blood, they hunt every man his brother with the net. Their hands are after evil, to make it good. The prince asks, and the judge is for reward; and the great man, he speaks the evil of his soul: and they twist it together.” (Micah 7:2-3).
This is a good time for us to rise above the noise of politics and focus on the truth of our society today. Politics does not have the answers to the problems facing the world. But God’s people do have the answers and those answers require action on our part.
The answers do not lie in the realm of man. Micah chapter seven and verse one makes that clear – there is no more a righteous man among men. Are we looking for elections and politics to provide the solutions to the many problems we face worldwide? If so, we will be looking in vain.
The reason is that God’s system of governance is based on His law.
“You shall do no injustice in judgement. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor” (Leviticus 19:15).
God’s law is impartial and has equal application to every person. Abraham was chosen by God to become the father of God’s model nation. Why was this man chosen for such an important role?
“For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him” (Genesis 18:19).
Abraham was chosen because he was a God-fearing man who based his life on the law of God. He was a righteous man.
The current political climate demonstrates a two-fold problem. One is that we do not have righteous leadership which bases actions on God’s law. Secondly, people vote on the basis of what they want to get. These are two exhibitions of raw carnal thinking. They twist right into wrong –“their hands are after evil, to make it good”.
“For the time will come when they will not endue sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers” (2 Timothy 4:3).
As with Abraham, God has assembled a group of people out of this world to live a life which demonstrates in real time, what it means to live by the law of God.
“For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our King, He will save us” (Isaiah 33:22).
We have been called to be witnesses of a way of life established by God. We walk by His law and demonstrate to a godless world, the value of His law to human life. As we walk this walk, we will find that our lives will diverge more and more from this world as it continues down the path of evil. Christ is the foundation of the Church of God, and of Him it is said,
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face” (Psalm 89:14).
This is a mandate for the people of God today.
