Are We Slaves or Are We Free?
Today, July 04, here in the United States, is the 250th anniversary of the birth of this country. On this day, in the city of Philadelphia, the text of Declaration of Independence, primarily written by Thomas Jefferson, was adopted. ! Within it, “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” were revealed as unalienable rights given to all humans by their Creator. The document set the “moral standard” for the United States at the time. Its assertion that “all men are created equal” has been used by nearly every movement for equality in U.S. history. Yet the document that set the stage for this day 250 years ago did not meet the level of freedom for all who lived within those 13 states. Many felt free and their definition of freedom really embodied what the document promoted. But not everyone was able to participate. Many have never felt that way… even to this day. The struggle for freedom is as old as the sin in the Garden of Eden. For the most part, very few people in the history of humankind have actually understood what true freedom really is. Today, let’s us explore.
