The Precipice
“As the West careens off the moral and political road and hurtles towards the precipice … “ no longer sounds outlandish. This situation has been a long time in the making.
One thing to which we need to pay attention is the fact that there really is a precipice. In the past, people generally have relied on “the establishment” to stop the slide of whatever negative trend appeared on the societal scene. Moral underpinnings were still sufficient to stand against whatever was undermining overall society.
Those of us who lived through the 1960’s revolution – which was primarily a sexual revolution fueled by drugs – could clearly see two sides. Basically, hippies versus the establishment. However, behind that smoke screen many seeds were planted that took root and gradually began to bear fruit. Now the two sides have merged into one.
Today, the revolution is being run by “the establishment.” The greatest influencers of society are now controlled by those dedicated to the destruction of western civilization as we know it. This is a fact that most prefer to ignore in the hope that society will somehow get back on some kind of even keel.
However, God says otherwise.
“Hear now, O heads of Jacob, and you rulers of the house of Israel … then they will cry to the Lord, but He will not hear them; He will even hide His face from them at that time, because they have been evil in their deeds (Micah 3:1-4).
The “rulers of the house of Israel” have been planting seeds that will ultimately come to full bloom. They – “the establishment” – are walking our nations toward a precipice such that the earth would experience utter destruction without God’s intervention.
Ezekiel warns of a two-thirds loss of life for Israel, while the book of Revelation foretells a time when the loss of life among non-Israelitish nations will also be great.
“So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs” (Revelation 14:19-20).
If we could accurately tally those who are dying each day from war, famine, pestilence and disease, I think we would be shocked. Yet these are early days.
What stands between now and the utter destruction Malachi refers to?
“And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened” (Matthew 24:22).
When understood, this places a great deal of responsibility upon our shoulders. It is not unreasonable to consider that you have been called to stand between the evil deeds of mankind and the precipice.
The key to God withholding the curse of utter destruction, is a group of people who have responded to their calling by turning their hearts to their Father and to their family. These are people who are living witnesses to Christ’s sacrifice and the power of God to salvation.
There is a precipice. It is our duty to stand in the gap to give God cause to not bring utter destruction upon the earth.
