Removing Egypt From the People of God
The Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread are fast approaching. And if we go back several thousand years, we can see that God’s Word reveals the story of how God took Israel out of Egypt. He did, indeed, do just that. He took the physical children of Israel out of Egypt. In that act, many lessons can be drawn for us. But what happened to Israel? God wants us to keep these lessons ever present.
Recall that once they were safely away from Pharaoh and his armies, they longed to go back to Egypt again. For many, their hearts were still there. They experienced trials and it seemed easier for them to return to the bondage they knew rather than walk the path that God had put them on. You see, the real dilemma was not getting Israel out of Egypt but getting Egypt out of the Israelites. Is it not the same for some of us as God’s people? God has called us and then He starts to bring us out of the spiritual Egypt that is this world today. Was it easier for many of us a number of years ago? Has it become more difficult today? Occasionally, there are strong tendencies to align ourselves with what is going on in the world. We have far more enticing distractions.
Through the process of conversion, God is taking sin out of our lives if we are truly aligned with Him. But this takes effort, this takes diligence. In an effort to reach alignment, let’s go over five points in our quest to be diligent followers of Christ.
