New Year’s Day
New Years is rooted in the most ancient traditions and celebrated all around the world. Dates of the New Year’s Day observance have varied in different cultures and calendars, as have the methods of celebration. However, no New Year’s custom draws impetus from the Bible, because the notion of commemorating it isn’t in there. Man’s New Year’s celebrations are universally pagan in origin (including the Jewish “Rosh Hashanah”), relate to fertility rights and idolatry, and frequently invite bad behavior. Most importantly, they set a rhythm that confuses and distracts from what God DOES require of us; i.e. observing His Holy Days. One cannot even authentically keep the basic Ten Commandments while observing New Year’s Day, and one can easily lose track of the great plan God has prepared for us if we lose focus.
