What Was Nailed to the Cross?

Many christian groups and denomination hold to the belief that Jesus nailed the law to the cross.

Their belief is that the law was a oppressive to mankind and when Jesus nailed it to the cross mankind was relieved and set free from God’s law. Is that what happened when Christ was sacrificed, or is there something else that is more helpful and beneficial for man that they don’t understand?

This is one of the basics that we need to review and understand to be able to give an answer for what we believe.
