True Reality
What is reality? Did Modernism have it right? Or is it Post-Modernism or Pseudo-Modernism? Are there absolute universal assertions of truth and meaning? Or are we to understand them as plural and contingent and dynamic? Is truth really relative to the situation, “it depends.” Today it appears the new philosophy of Pseudo-Modernism trumps the others.
From “philosophynow.org” an article named “The Death of Postmodernism And Beyond” takes a stab at defining the current culture.
‘This pseudo-modern world, so frightening and seemingly uncontrollable, inevitably feeds a desire to return to the infantile playing with toys…Here, the typical emotional state, radically superseding the hyper-consciousness of irony, is the trance – the state of being swallowed up by your activity. In place of the neurosis of modernism and the narcissism of postmodernism, pseudo-modernism takes the world away, by creating a new ‘weightless nowhere’ of silent autism. You click, you punch the keys, you are ‘involved’, engulfed, deciding. You are the text, there is no-one else, no ‘author’; there is nowhere else, no other time or place. You are free: you are the text: the text is superseded.’
One thing we can be certain of is that all ideas have consequences. We all need to understand what ideas and morals are guiding the society we live in because we are all affected by the attitudes and behaviors surrounding us.
