Leadership
Our world is transforming on a daily basis. But we understand that the changes are not generally for the better. In this transformation we need to distinguish the good from the bad. By distinguishing the good, you will be led to the only place good exists – God’s truth.
God’s word tells us in prophetic language of a time when leadership will be turned on its head. Solomon described this phenomenon quite graphically:
“There is an evil I have seen under the sun, as an error proceeding from the ruler, folly is set in great dignity, while the rich sit in a lowly place. I have seen servants on horses, while princes walk on the ground like servants” (Ecclesiastes 10:5-7).
This transformation of leadership is before our eyes today. Take these comments written by William J Bennett, chairman of Resilience Learning and former education minister:
““The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” William Butler Yeats wrote those words about Europe after the Great War, but they ring with terrible clarity this week … This is what we have done to our young people. We have made the cost of conviction so high that capable, principled people retreat from public engagement entirely.” (William J Bennett –September 16, 2025).
The prophet Isaiah also addressed this condition of leadership when he said:
“I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them … do not make me a ruler of the people” (Isaiah 3:4,7 – The whole chapter is worth reviewing).
God’s model of leadership has been abandoned. In man’s haste to remove God from the equation of life, they have rejected the protections His way imparts. Take Ezekiel’s words for example:
“Look, the princes of Israel: each one has used his power to shed blood on you. In you they have made light of father and mother …“ (Ezekiel 22:6-7).
The family model of leadership has been rejected and we are suffering the consequences. The breakup of the family is a documented fact. It began in the garden of Eden of course, but has been fined tuned by Satan for centuries. It was stated as a goal of modern thinking as far back as Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) when he claimed God was dead and the family became a target for destruction. To destroy the family unit is to destroy the foundation of society. In this, today’s leadership is being successful.
In understanding this, it helps us to make sense of what we see around us. We have a context for the political and social confusion presented to us on a regular basis. It helps us identify what we are to come out of. We can have peace of mind by not getting emotionally involved in the issues of the day, we do not take sides because no side is of God.
We seek the good that God reveals to us. That good will lead us back to the trunk of the tree – family as the basis of society. It will encourage us to preserve and work with our families. To understand its importance as a basis of proper leadership, both as a working model and as a training ground for future leaders. It is the style of leadership to be found in the home and in the Church.
“This people I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise” (Isaiah 43:21).
