October 21, 2015 – Israel
According to CBS This Morning, in a segment airing on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, the current round of violence in Israel is not letting up. This is in spite of new Israeli efforts to separate the Israelis and Palestinians and defuse the situation. CBS TV Correspondent, Barry Peterson, ended his coverage of the situation with the following statement:
“Now ISIS is egging the Palestinians on, saying in videos, the Palestinians should escalate the violence using such tactics as setting Israelis on fire.”
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon traveled to the region on the 20th to meet with Palestinian President Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The UN’s website posted his comments regarding the trip:
“My visit reflects the sense of global alarm at the dangerous escalation in violence between Israelis and Palestinians.”
“I am here to encourage and support all efforts to lower tensions and prevent the situation from spinning out of control.”
And according to a “Readout” on the UN’s website:
“The Secretary-General said that he is particularly concerned with the situation at Haram al Sharif/Temple Mount and the religious dispute over it, which has serious repercussions not only for Israel and Palestine but throughout the region. He underscored the importance of direct dialogue between Israel and Jordan, in line with previous agreements between the two countries, and in recognition of Jordan’s special role.”
