God’s law is indeed a mirror that shows us exactly what we are like, not what we think we are like, not what others think we are, but what we truly are. That is why it is so important to look at that law daily, regularly… and compare ourselves to what we see and align ourselves to what God sees. It is very difficult for us at times to accept the truth about ourselves.
There are times when it almost slaps us in the face, yet we would rather walk away as if a reveal had not occurred. But God calls us to an understanding of Himself, and when He does, He uses the mirror of the Word to show us ourselves, to bring us to repentance. We have spiritually put the old person to death at baptism and come out of the water a new creation. We thank God that reveals that true person a little bit at a time, else we could not take it all in. He reveals a bit at a time, as we are able to handle it. This process of conversion is continuous and as we overcome, we grow in our depth of repentance. It helps us to evaluate and ask the question, “How does God see me?”
