God’s Suffering Servant
Who is the suffering servant of the Lord in Isaiah 53? Isaiah never tells us. Many individuals in the past have been thought to be the suffering servant. But all the New Testament writers understand the passage to refer to Jesus Christ. The suffering servant is an innocent person who bears the guilt of others, perishes because of it and will nevertheless have success. He is God’s chosen servant, and He will succeed.
