Digital Distraction
A major plight exists today where even many scholarly of the world are recognizing a dramatic decline in the ability of people to think deeply and clearly. A primary cause is society’s unbridled acceptance of technology that is blatantly designed to distract.
Distractions of all types continually beckon for our attention, and eventually distraction begins to define our identity. The natural effect is that people lose the ability to think and focus on doing any one thing well, and falsely believe that productivity is achieved by a fast-paced, multi-tasked life.
It is a powerful deception that works on the mind not unlike an addiction. Unfortunately, not being able to think through life’s daily decisions and challenges invariably leads to very shallow living practices.
God calls us to use our God-renewed minds to deeply think through what we are taught, and then go forward to accept and practice in the truth. We are to be meditative, contemplative people in whatever we are doing.
We must be extremely careful with how we use the technological wonders of today, knowing their very real potential to cause us harm by not only distracting us away from what is truly important, but by altering how we think.
