Dating the Give Way
Modern dating is in bad shape. It is often shaped by high expectations and a consumer mindset in an endless quest for personal fulfillment. The core issue is motivation: whether dating is approached as a way to fulfill one’s own desires or as a way to fulfill someone else’s. Scripture provides a model of faithful, self-giving love, exemplified in Ruth and Boaz, where loyalty, responsibility, and godly character form the basis of healthy relationships and a positive, productive result. Romantic relationships are meant to move toward covenant commitment, reflect Christ and the Church, and serve God’s creative purpose. Preparation before marriage includes cultivating spiritual maturity, building productive competency in life, and practicing faithfulness in all aspects. We do this all for the benefit of another. While no one lives these ideals perfectly, God forgives and renews as we endeavor and progress. We should do the same for each other in our relationships. So prepare yourself as a gift with generosity and purpose.
