Consumer or Committed?
Our lives are shaped by our commitments. Taking our commitments seriously is an important part of living a happy, fulfilling life. But much of the world has developed a non-committal, consumer oriented attitude toward life that is contributing to the unraveling of society.
These same attitudes have contributed to similar problems in the Church. Have we become religious consumers, or committed followers? The truth is, commitment can be costly. Challenges in life will force us to examine our commitments. If our commitments are weak, then we will not be able to stand when “offenses” come.
Exercising God’s spirit can help us deeply examine our motives and behaviors, and then set forth on a life of renewed commitment to God’s law, His plan and His way of life.
