A Year of Cultivation
Historians give credit for the first calendars to farmers, herdsmen and shepherds who needed to know when to prepare, plant and harvest crops and to move herds and flocks. Later they were altered by chiefs and rulers adding special national or religious days to create cultures and identities that assisted in governing their people. What is true for farmers and the world’s nations is also true for God’s physical and spiritual nations – Israel and the Church. His calendar instills His culture in His people. As a new sacred calendar begins, we must focus on what that culture consists of and teaches.
