Breaking news today, Brussels, Belgium has been attacked by terrorists. Explosions caused multiple deaths and injuries at the Brussels International Airport and at a metro train station.
One individual asked, “Is this like America’s 9-11 attack.” He was told,
“No, the Paris attacks may be compared to 9-11; this is more like an attack on the US capital, Washington DC.”
Both NATO and the European Union headquarters are located in Brussels.
Flights and trains into Brussels have been canceled; all public transportation in the city has been shut down. Today’s EU meetings were cancelled. A temporary shockwave swept through stock markets. Travel related stock prices fell.
Western television has been thoroughly covering what is known so far.
Impact Ahead
This, following the recent Paris and Southern California attacks, will continue to accelerate the West’s swing to the political right.
In the USA, these events will, no doubt, sway undecided voters in the upcoming 2016 elections. In the UK, EU opponents blamed Schengen, a policy of open borders between most EU countries, and quickly announced that this is one more reason to vote to leave the EU in June’s referendum.
