Wisdom Dwells with Prudence
Wisdom dominates the first eight chapters of Proverbs. In Proverbs 8:12, wisdom declares where she dwells – with prudence. What are the key characteristics of prudence and why should we desire this quality? Those who are prudent are circumspect, which is the ability to look around and consider all circumstances and consequences of our words and actions. The prudent person is also judicious by exercising sound judgment and being balanced, careful and patient. Finally, the prudent are discreet by respecting confidential information, being careful when speaking in public and in private, and exercising good judgment in what we say or post in public media that could cause offense to others. Prudence is the crowning virtue of wise kings and rulers. As we are preparing for these roles in this life, we should train ourselves now in the virtues of prudence.
