The Parable of the Self Absorbed
Where do we look for our standard of what is right and wrong? How do we define what is good and bad?
Increasingly people are looking to themselves to define what is right and wrong and establish what behaviors are good and bad. If we look to ourselves to define what is right and wrong, we ultimately place ourselves in a position to judge not only ourselves but others as well. In this situation, we can easily act as the arbiter of truth and eventually look to force our perspective of right and wrong on others. This leads to a thought process and cycle where we become absorbed by our own thoughts and ideas. The antidote is to look to a standard of right and wrong outside ourselves and align ourselves to that standard. There is only one true standard – the one set by God. He determines right and wrong and establishes what behaviors are good and bad. Given where society is today, we should ask the question – “What standard do we align ourselves to?”
