The news program, Journal, on Deutsche Welle (DW) TV had referred to last Friday as the “mother of all deadlines for Greece”. But intensive last minute negotiations over the weekend apparently averted the potential immediate Grexit from the Eurozone.
DW News, however, cautioned on February 25, 2015,
“Despite the Eurozone accepting a four-month extension to Greece’s bailout program, the plan still must be passed by key European parliaments. Greece’s toughest critic, Germany, could prove the hardest challenge.”
According to one DW TV correspondent, even if it is ratified as expected “the can has been merely kicked down the road”.
The debate in both the EU and in Greece continues over whether Greece staying with or discarding the euro would lead to a quicker, better economic recovery or worsen conditions for her and the EU. Economists and financial experts do not agree on what is the optimal solution.
Other economically strapped EU nations like Portugal, Spain, and Italy are said to be watching the entire matter closely.
