Getting ready for Christmas is seriously ramping up among those who celebrate the holiday. Store displays, music, TV shows, and colorful ads are all designed with one thing in mind — to get people in the mood.
It is considered the most important retail season of the year not only in the Western world but now even in some countries that do not view themselves as Christian.
Catholics and Protestants teach that the 25th is Christ’s birthday. Yet, a number of academic scholars and other Christians disagree about the date or whether Christians should observe his birthday at all.
The Encyclopaedia Britannica blog states,
“Early Christians did not celebrate his birth, and no one knows on which date Jesus was actually born (some scholars believe that the actual date was in the early spring …)”
Some, in and out of Christianity, also recoil from the pre-Christian traditions that became an intrinsic part of the season.
